  • Interactive 360 panoramic video

i just would like to share some cool link i found at evermotion.org which shows a video stream where you can change the view of the camera at any time

    more info at.....

    http://www.cgexplorer.com/2009/04/27...h-yellowbirds/

curious as i am i wanted to recreate that in max with vray, my solution for that would be the renderout a camera sequenz and change the FOV in the renderpannel to sperical and 360 FOV, and render out thos images.

    here is a small testscene

after that i create a mov file from those images and would like to load them into pano2vr, but the problem is that this software only supports still images, not movies.....

so my question would be if any one has experince with creating such interaktiv walkthroughs or can point my to a software which could handle those files

thank you very much for your help and best regards from vienna

    Hello~

We did something like this for Cathay Pacific, working with McCann Erickson...

Our concept was to use the 360 cam as you suggest, and then we mapped it to a sphere using papervision in flash. the animation is then scrubed in flash to move back and forth, and you can lookaround as you travel along the camera path. We added to this hotspots that link to canned animations which take you to other Vr's in the seated position, and these vr's have animations from locked off camera positions...have a look if you like:

click 'take the tour' and 'on my own'...

if you want to create proper 360 panos, your dimensions need to be 2:1. meaning 800x400 and so on.

any comments on how Papervision was to work with, Eric?
(though I imagine it would be one of your colleagues who did that)

Papervision looks very interesting, I just need a project that requires it!

You are correct, sir. If I look at actionscript for more than 5 seconds I black out

I came up with the proof of concept using Max, and then my former cube-mate Randy (rolson@rolson.com- shameless plug for the laid off Flash genius) found Papervision and made it work, again, for proof of concept. Then we passed it all off to McCann Erickson to productize.

All that being said, I think Papervision is a robust, yet awkward solution to an elegant and useful style of visualization, meaning that there are several other pano players that can run a video for you, but having it native in Flash gives you SO many more opportunities to interact with the scene...but the average 3d guy IMO can't really pull it off alone~

On a side note, if we're pinched for time we've been using the spherical map concept in Max instead of a pan and scan...

This is really cool. I just happen to have need for a walk through like this. I got papervision installed and have compiled a few examples. It's been a couple years since I've done anything complex with AS, but assuming that they have it documented well, it should not be that hard.

EricKlein, I was wondering if you might have some AS code you could share with us?

Sorry Ray, I'm not the one who did the programing, and the guy who did was just a victim of layoffs here- You can try to email him if you like: Rolson@rolson.com or better yet, Hire him to help!

                          Cheers,

                          Eric.
