  • VRay Preview Render

The tool overrides all your material, shadow and render settings while rendering and then restores the previous settings after the preview is rendered. This allows you to render quick previews without having to go through all materials to set lower subdivs etc.

    Download: http://www.niksula.cs.hut.fi/~jylila...eviewRender.ms

    Download (Macroscript): http://www.niksula.cs.hut.fi/~jylila...viewRender.mcr

Requirements: VRay 1.5 SP 1 or later.

Instal: Save BerconPreviewRender.ms file to your maxscript folder and run it. It automaticly creates ini file where all the settings are stored to that same folder.

Update: To update from previous version to the newest simply override the old file. After this you need to reset your presets, do this by starting the script, right-clicking anywhere in the dialog and select Reset presets->Reset

Note: If you want to assign BerconPreviewRender to toolbar as a button you'll need the Macroscript. Run it once, then go to Customize->Customize User Interface->Toolbars tab->Category: Bercon->Open Bercon Preview Render. You can drag'n'drop it to any toolbar in max. Also note that you still need also the first file for it to work.

Using it is simple, run the script and the preview render dialog (in the picture) pops up. You can select preset settings by right clicking Render preview button or individually for each category by clicking the category button. VrayPreviewRender only overrides the settings you've selected (yellow buttons, visible settings). So you can choose only to set lower subdivs for materials and leave everything else untouched for example.

Just to make it clear, it doesn't alter any settings permanently, just for the render time and only when you start the render from Render Preview button.

Please post any bug reports and improvment suggestions here.

pretty cool. But I change the global qmc settings when I wish to render out 'preview' quality images. You might think about adding that.

Yeah I think its a good idea. Do you think people alter min samples? I'm trying to keep as few settings as possible in the UI so I think only exposing "Adaptive amount" and "Noise treshold" would do.

Great stuff Jerry - thanks for that just when I needed it !

Only pain is that when saving the preview out, max only allows it to be saved as an avi with restricted compressors - I know this isn't your problem and I could render it out as a series of stills but anyway.

        Excellent thanks !

Shadow subdivs on some of my Vraylights dont seem to revert back to the original setting after rendering a preview.
They stay at 4 despite what I set them to.

Is it possible for you to send a sample scene with this behaviour? I've tested the script with RC3 and final 1.50.00 version and it works fine.

I also noticed that resolution override doesn't work properly with VRays frame buffer since it only changes maxs vfb resolution (unless you take the resolution from maxs vfb of course).

It'll be way too big, at the moment I just work around it by upping the subdivs in the script UI. But it only does it on some of the lights.. not all... strange.

Now version 1.1 is out, it has DMC overrides and it adds support for resolution overrides when using vrays own frame buffer. Download it from the first post.

First of all I'd like to say that I really like this script.
I use it alot and it really saves alot of time.

But now that I'm using the updated version I got an error when I rendered at 640x480 through the Preview Render window. It happened at render end and when I cancelled a render.
After that I can't render a preview anymore but when I re-run the script it works again.
