  • 1.5 SP1 on Vista

    Yeah, I know...

    Vista is not a great idea but my new laptop runs that, so..

    my issue is:

    VRay SP1 doesn't find its plugins

    -plugins are installed and visible in correct folder

    -plugin.ini in my VIZ 2008 root is correct (the vray additional plugin path line is the last one)

    -the dongle works as I can access the VRay tabs inside render dialog

    -in the material editor I can only see vrlightmtl, vraymtl and vraymtl/wrapper; ALL THE OTHERS VRAY PLUGINS ARE MISSING, I mean FastSSS, Vray blend and so on

    -Vray camera is missing as well

    everything inside the vrayplugins folder is totally unaccessible

    any idea?

    thanx in advance
    Alessandro

    Look at the plugin.ini file in the root folder of 3ds Max and make sure that the line about additional v-ray plugins is the last one.

      hi Vlado,

      as I mentioned in my first post I already double-checked the plugin.ini file in "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\VIZ2008";

      here is its content:

      [Help]
      mental ray 3.5 Reference=C:\Program Files\Autodesk\VIZ2008\help\mr_reference.chm
      [Directories]
      V-Ray main plug-ins=C:\Program Files\Autodesk\VIZ2008\plugins
      V-Ray additional plug-ins=C:\Program Files\Autodesk\VIZ2008\plugins\vrayplugins
      ;=;

      everything seems OK, isn't it?

      ...than I tried to double-check the one in "C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Autodesk\VIZ\ 9 - 32bit\enu" as well

      here it is:

      [Directories]
      Additional VIZ plug-ins=C:\Program Files\Autodesk\VIZ2008\PlugIns
      [Help]

      so I cut and paste the first one in this location and now every works fine

      hope it helps

        Ok, you could also have removed the ;=; part in the original file; looks like it can mess things up too.

        Best regards,

          I did other tests on this issue;
          my only solution is to copy the plugin.ini in the max/viz root to the user folder as I described above; only removing the ;=; part from the last line isn't enought; anyway I don't know what is the purpose of that line?!

            Me neither All I can say is that it is not put there by V-Ray...

            Best regards,

              with max 9 and crashes we found that this can happen a lot....i backed up a good one (ini file) and then copy it over when ever this happens...
