  • Retrace Threshold LightCache

    Hello there,

I don't know if it has been asked before but here i go

I was playing with moving cam and objects scene and LCahe flicker it's driving me really mad even with "use camera path" option...

I've tried secondary bounces with photon mapping and yes, it works like a charm since photon emission is view independent and because of this i'm wondering now:

-Is there any chance to implement a similar feature like "Retrace Threshold" like photon mapping solution for the Light Cache? I realized that flicker issues are a lot more noticiable at the geometry edges so a feature like this will help a lot avoiding flicker... Does it makes sense?

Thanks in advance and sorry my bad english.

    Regards,
    A.

Yes, it can be done; however the flickering with the "Use camera path" is odd - I will have to investigate this.

Thanks Vlado, it would be really great!!

The scene BTW it's quite simple: animated teapots with an animated camera too in a simple room with a plane VrayLight. Vray version is 1.50.SP3a. Hope this helps a bit...

      A.

EDIT: "Time independent" is turned ON by default.

Yes, I can reproduce this here and I'm looking into it.

          Any update on this, Vlado?

I've noticed that turning "Number of passes" to 1 -just one CPU thread i understand- reduces a bit LCache flickering BTW. Maybe this helps on research the issue...

Im having the same problems with flickering using the method outlined in this thread (camera path option):

Yep, it's because of the random distribution of samples in the light cache; using smaller sample sizes and prefiltering might help, but I haven't tested it extensively.
